From Howard Street to the Redwood Curtain
The Story of Weird Howard Productions
Weird Howard began with a group of filmmakers working out of Howard Street in Maine. It was a fitting birthplace for a production company fascinated by horror, folklore, unexplained phenomena, and stories found just beyond the borders of ordinary life.
The name began as a reference to where we made our earliest films, but it soon came to represent our approach to filmmaking. Weird Howard became a place for unusual ideas, independent productions, ambitious experiments, and stories that might not have found a home anywhere else.
From those early projects in Maine to our work today in Humboldt County, California, our purpose has remained the same: follow the strange story wherever it leads.
Something Strange in New England
New England has always understood that places can hold stories.
Its old cemeteries, coastal fog, isolated roads, dense forests, abandoned buildings, long winters, and centuries of folklore helped shape the American Gothic tradition. Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston. H.P. Lovecraft was born in Providence. Stephen King was born in Portland, Maine. Each transformed the landscape, anxieties, and hidden histories of New England into stories that changed horror forever.
Growing up as filmmakers in that environment taught us to pay attention to atmosphere. Horror was not confined to monsters or violence. It could live in an old house, an empty road, a local legend, a sound in the woods, or the uncomfortable feeling that something familiar had become impossible to explain.
That tradition influenced our interest in independent horror, cosmic horror, paranormal investigation, folklore, and documentary filmmaking. It taught us that the strangest stories often begin with a real place and a sincere question.
Following the Weird West
Our journey eventually brought Weird Howard across the country to Humboldt County and the remote reaches of the Pacific Northwest.
Here we found another landscape defined by mystery: ancient redwood forests, rugged coastline, mountain roads, abandoned settlements, Bigfoot legends, ghost stories, UFO sightings, and communities filled with people who have experienced things they cannot easily explain.
Maine and Humboldt County may sit on opposite sides of the country, but they share a particular kind of atmosphere. Both are shaped by forests, fog, isolation, local folklore, and the sense that the landscape is much older than the people moving through it.
The weird tales of New England inspired us to investigate the strange stories of Northern California. The setting changed, but the questions followed us.
What is hiding in the forest? Why do certain legends survive for generations? What happens when ordinary people encounter something they cannot explain? And what if the universe is far stranger than we have allowed ourselves to believe?
Horror, Filmmaking and the Paranormal
Weird Howard Productions has worked with horror filmmakers, independent creators, businesses, performers, community organizations, paranormal investigators, witnesses, and people with unusual stories to tell.
Our work includes narrative films, documentaries, commercial productions, short films, interviews, live events, promotional videos, paranormal programming, visual effects, editing, sound, and production support.
We are equally comfortable helping another filmmaker bring a creature to the screen, documenting a sincere paranormal experience, producing a commercial for a local organization, or developing one of our own original horror projects.
Our productions explore subjects including H.P. Lovecraft, cosmic horror, Bigfoot, cryptids, ghosts, unexplained phenomena, strange history, and the people who continue investigating them.
We do not approach every paranormal story with a predetermined answer. We approach it with curiosity, respect, and a camera.

We want to document the unusual, support independent productions, preserve local stories, and make professional video production more accessible in Humboldt County.
Some of those stories are commercial. Some are historical. Some are deeply personal.
And some have glowing eyes and disappear into the redwoods.
